Every love story is beautiful, but ours is our favourite.
Some stories begin with a grand gesture. Ours began with a friendship, a goodbye that wasn't forever, and a surprise reunion at an event at BYU — followed by a very anxious text message and a very long five minutes of watching the typing indicator.
Abbie and Asante first crossed paths through a mutual friend. That was enough. They hit it off — fast friends, the kind who could spend hours talking and leave every conversation wishing there'd been more time.
Things shifted. Abbie, being the considerate person she is, stepped back — and Asante respected it. They went their separate ways. But neither of them fully let go of the friendship.
Asante was calling students out at BYU's Information Systems orientation to get their professional headshots taken — the same program he had quietly coached Abbie through applying for. He had no idea she'd gotten in. Then he stumbled onto her team, and there she was. He gave her grief, she laughed it off, and just like that, they were back.
At an IS program event, Asante watched Abbie light up a room full of professors and classmates and thought: I need to do more things with this person. He went home and sent the text. She started typing. Then kept typing. Five of the longest minutes of his life. Then: "I want to spend more time with you too."
Hangouts turned into late conversations turned into something they both knew was real. After a BYU football game — one Abbie came to straight off a long family trip from St. George — they ordered wings and ended up at Asante's place. On November 15th, 2025, over wings, they made it official. It's been them ever since.
On September 15th, 2026, in front of everyone who matters most to them, Abbie and Asante make it forever. You being here means everything.
